Search engine marketing is one of those things where you can learn as much as you want by reading but until you actually get your hands dirty and try it yourself you really can’t understand what it is all about. Whether it is SEO, social media marketing or pay per click advertising you learn the most by actually doing the work yourself. By trial and error along with hunting and exploring online you start to figure out what this search engine marketing game is really all about. Social media is no exception to this; I have generated an amazing amount of knowledge and experience over the years by simply conducting my own social media marketing campaigns.
Here is what I have learned:
There are a lot of online conversations
There are a ridiculous amount of online conversations happening at any given time. Industries you wouldn’t expect chatter to exist in are talking up a storm online. The amount of social media conversations is only growing and you can physically see it on a daily basis.
Spelling really counts
When you start to push around content in the social media space people will rip you apart for misspellings. Take your time when you write anything because there are people out there that will make it a point to call you out on your mistakes which could cause you little spurts of reputation management issues.
Content really is king
Hands down content is the best way to get attention from your audience in the social media space. People really like to read what you have to say if you say it the right way. Content still seems like the winner when it comes to communicating in the social space online.
Things are growing
You will notice that chatter and activity is continuously growing and increasing in the social media space. I have noticed a significant increase in conversation frequencies everywhere over the last few years. We are just at the beginning of social media and things are going to get much busier as time moves on. It is just a sign as how important companies are finding this form of communication to the growth of their business.
It really does work
Social media marketing is no fad or gimmick. When you use the tools that are available it really does work especially if you pay close attention to your website analytics information. As I look at my analytics information I see more and more social media related websites sending over targeted traffic on a monthly basis which leads me to believe that it is even more important than it ever was in the past.
Online communication is very important
As time goes on I see how important these online conversations really are to starting up new relationships with people online you might have never been able to bump into. I have been able to communicate with important individuals online since I have started using social media. These are individuals that I would most likely never communicate with if I was not being social online.
