I’ve joined Pinterest, but, for a page to be pinned it needs at least one image on it. That makes it less conventional than other types of social media, which is probably one of its selling points.
I think that is the beauty behind Pinterest. Images are great for click throughs and it allows Pinterest to be more visual. I think that is how they stand apart from other social bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious or Reddit.
