Struggling to place the right link on Instagram? You’re not alone.
Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms in the world.
There are more than a billion monthly active users on Insta, and the number keeps growing. Experts predict that in 2023, there will be 125.5 million active users logging in from the US alone.
As a digital engagement channel, Instagram does a lot of things right. It’s wonderfully visual, great at showcasing brand identity and brimming with ways to connect to your audience. There is one downside though – it’s tough to build a good link strategy on Instagram.
Unlike with other social media channels, you don’t have many linking opportunities on Instagram. You can’t even place clickable links in your post captions.
So, what can you do?
The easiest and most effective option is to use a linking tool.
Solutions like url.bio gives Instagram users the freedom to go beyond the one-link restriction on Instagram. With url.bio, you place a single link on Instagram in your bio, which means that you’re still following the channel’s sharing rules.
However, there’s no limit to the number of links you add to that URL. This particular service is highly customizable, so you can add different brand colors and thumbnails to make your brand stand out. You also get in-built reporting tools, so you can track how well your campaigns are doing.
Benefits of a link in bio tool include:
If you have just one link to promote, then you might not need a link in bio tool. Instead, you can just add that single link to your Instagram profile. Remember, the Instagram bio is the only place where you can add a clickable link.
Think of the link on Instagram bios as your “home” base for your Insta marketing strategy. It’s there for anyone who happens across your profile. Some people use this link to guide people towards their product pages, whereas others link straight to a landing page.
One option is to change the link in your bio regularly so that you can send your audience to multiple pages. However, this can make promoting your bio link in Instagram captions difficult. What if someone sees a post from a few months ago and clicks on your link to visit an entirely different page?
If handling a single link in your bio seems complicated, you can always experiment with Instagram Stories instead. Stories are a temporary post type on Instagram, so they’re a great way to share time-sensitive links to recent content.
If you have more than 10,000 followers on Insta, you can add a swipe-up link to your story. Just open the Instagram app on your phone, swipe left to create your story, then click “Insert Link” with the chain icon. Click on the URL option to insert your link, then hit done.
You can save your stories with links in the highlight section on your Insta profile. This is a brilliant way to keep valuable links pinned between your photo grid and bio. Use your highlights for evergreen links like best-selling products and FAQ pages.
Remember, when adding links to your Stories, make them stand out with the highlighter, pen tools, or stickers from Instagram.
Unfortunately, you can’t share clickable links in your Instagram captions. However, you can include short links that your followers can copy and paste into search engines themselves.
Adding links to your captions alongside hashtags is a great way to grab audience attention and move them in the right direction. Remember, use a link-shortening service to keep the URL as short as possible, so it’s easier for customers to copy.
Make sure that you give crystal-clear directions around the link too. Whether you’re adding URLs in your post captions or story, your customers need to know what they’re going to do next. Some companies even just let their audience know to “click the link in the bio” to direct their followers in their purchasing journey.
If you’re using a post to usher followers towards a Story post, tell them which highlight to check out on your profile.
Finally, shoppable posts are another example of a useful link for Instagram users. Each shopping tag on your profile can link to a single product.
You can start using shopping tags by creating a product catalog on Facebook. Once you upload your products, with links and descriptions (plus photos), you can start adding tags to Insta posts. The shopping tab will also be alongside the standard tabs on YOUR Instagram profile.
Clicking the Shopping tab will showcase your entire product portfolio, where users can tap to shop. There’s also the option to save items like they would a standard post.
With Instagram Insights, business leaders can even find out which posts are getting the most engagement. Plus, there’s the option to compare shopping posts based on metrics like impressions, saves, and clicks.
Mastering links is one of the most challenging parts of running a successful Instagram campaign. New methods for backlinking from Instagram appear all the time, but for now, the best option is still the simplest. Using a link in bio tool is the most effective way to guide your audience to multiple crucial pages on your site without breaking Instagram’s rules.
